Ivy Man Sum Chung

PH.D, LBA, BCBA-D

Founder /
Executive Director

Q

Ivy Man Sum Chung, PH.D., LBA, BCBA

Founder & Executive Director

Languages Spoken: English, Cantonese, Mandarin

Dr. Chung founded Sum of Learning in 2013 with a dual mission: to support culturally and linguistically diverse families and to mentor the next generation of ABA practitioners. Prior to this, she spent five years as part of a pioneering team that established a behavioral health division within a national healthcare organization.

During this period, she gained valuable experience in the administrative and billing aspects of running an ABA business, developed a comprehensive staff training program, and recognized the vital role of mentorship — an insight that ultimately led to the creation of Sum of Learning. A decade later, she continues to fulfill these goals, providing high-quality, compassionate services and fostering a strong growth culture within her organization.

Originally from Hong Kong, Dr. Chung moved to the US to further her education with the career goal of becoming a Child Clinical Psychologist. However, an internship working with a young boy with autism introduced her to ABA, prompting a shift in her career focus. She earned a Master of Education in Special Education in 2008 and became a BCBA. Dr. Chung returned to the University of Washington and completed her Ph.D. under the guidance of Dr. Ilene Schwartz and completed her Ph.D. in 2016, focusing her research on evidence-based staff training, parent coaching, and instructional techniques to increase the efficiency of teaching learners with autism spectrum disorders.

Dr. Chung had the honor of serving as Secretary on the Executive Committee of the Washington Association for Behavior Analysis from 2019 to 2022 and rejoined the committee in 2024 to assist the Executive Committee with the leadership transition. She is also an adjunct faculty member in the ABA graduate program at the University of Washington. She truly enjoys her work as a Behavior Analyst and mentor, and feels blessed to be surrounded by a team of compassionate individuals and practitioners at Sum of Learning. Outside of work, she cherishes spending time with her family and traveling around the world.
