Our Roles

Executive Director (ED)
The Executive Director oversees the daily operations of Sum of Learning. Besides the day to day administrative duties, our ED, Dr. Ivy Chung, adopts a hands-on approach in supervising all clinical staff through regular direct observations, monthly meetings, or video-based performance audits. Dr. Chung directs the assessment and treatment process, reviews monthly progress report and has the final approval of treatment plan of each client to ensure standards for programming needs and progress are met. She participates in the initial assessment process, attends quarterly team meetings, conducts home visits, and is available for IEP meetings and other supports as needed. Dr. Chung adopts an open door policy to all Sum of Learning families, and is available to address any concerns or answer any questions families may have regarding their child or clinical team.
CLINICAL SUPERVISOR (CS)
Clinical Supervisors (CS) are Board Certified Behavior Analysts with at least 4 years of supervision and case management experience. Their primary role is to provide mentorship and clinical oversight to Assistant Program Supervisors (aPS). Clinical Supervisor will lead initial intake assessment, review and approve clinical documents developed by the aPS, including treatment plans, behavior reduction plans, treatment programs, and monthly progress report. CS may participate in supervision sessions between the aPS and TA, team meetings, or IEP meetings. Clinical Supervisor and aPS meet at least once a month to review cases and discuss treatment planning.
Program Supervisor (PS)
Program Supervisors (PS) are Board Certified Behavior Analysts with at least 1 year of supervision and case management experience. The PS directly consults with the client’s direct service team, and is responsible for conducting initial assessment and ongoing assessment, developing treatment and behavior reduction plans, preparing individualized programs and program materials, monitoring client’s programs and progress, conducting and leading team meetings, and providing direct supervision to TAs. The PS also conducts parent training and collaborates with other service providers (e.g., school, OT, SLP) as needed. The PS is the main contact for families regarding the client’s treatment plan and clinical needs.
ASSISTANT PROGRAM SUPERVISOR (aPS)
Assistant Prgram Supervisors (aPS) hold a master’s degree in special education, psychology, ABA, or other related fields. They are either newly board certified with less than a year of supervision and case management experience, or are eligible to take the BCBA exam within 3 months upon case assignment. The aPS essentially performs the same duties as the Program Supervisor, except under the direct oversight and consultation of the Clinical Supervisor. In addition, aPS may provide 1:1 support to the client if deemed appropriate.
ABA THERAPY ASSISTANT
Recognizing the high demand for ABA services but limited availability of quality direct service staff, Sum of Learning adopts the philosophy of grooming the next generation of ABA providers and employs qualified individuals who have a passion for serving the autism community. Our TAs generally hold a bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or other areas related to child development or education. Although many of the TAs we hire may not have extensive experiences in ABA, families can rest assure that all our TA staff receive intensive ABA training (40+ hours) and high dosage of quality supervision from our BCBAs. All of our staff are background checked and required to maintain the Certified Behavior Technician credential through Washington State Department of Health.

ABA Therapy Assistants (TAs) provide direct intervention as often as recommended by the clinical team and authorized by your insurance. The TA is responsible for implementing programs according to the treatment plan, recording data, and documenting session notes. A client may be assigned one or multiple TAs depending on the client’s availability and intensity of the therapy schedule. TAs report directly to the case supervisor, and will receive supervision from the PS or aPS at least once a month.
